Subject:PMI Savannah River Chapter Bylaws
Recently, a committee of Chapter members chartered by the Chapter's Board of Directors completed a review and update to the Savannah River Chapter Bylaws. The Bylaws were last updated in 2002.
In keeping with our existing Bylaws, you are being provided a 45 day notice and a copy of the Bylaws, with tracked changes, in anticipation of a membership vote to take place at the June 19th Dinner Meeting.
In general, the Bylaws were reviewed against the latest template from PMI. With two minor exceptions, PMI in their review of the updated Bylaws found them to be acceptable.
Generally, clarifications were made to better define VP roles and responsibilities, eliminate duplication, and revise wording that was unclear or confusing. The most significant change in the Bylaws is the creation of a new position entitled, President Elect, and the change in the President's service from two years to one year. Related to these changes is that the VP Membership will no longer automatically assume the position of President.
Previously, one had to be the VP Membership for two years to become President. Then, serve two years as President and two years as Immediate Past President. This resulted in a commitment of six years. With this change in the Bylaws, a President Elect with full voting rights will serve for one year, become President for one year, and serve as Immediate Past President for one year. In total, a three year commitment.
Any questions you may have regarding the changes to the Bylaws may be sent to me at lee.carey@srs.gov or lxcarey@aol.com.
